OVERVIEW

Have you been in a situation where you wanted to

start a conversation with strangers at a social event but

didn't know how to begin?

PROBLEM

In today's fast-paced world, the ability to quickly establish meaningful connections is more crucial than ever. However, individuals often find themselves constrained by the limited time they have at their disposal, making efficient networking a significant challenge.

TARGET USERS

People who aim to effectively build connections and those who struggle to initiate conversations with others.

RESEARCH

We initiated our research with interviews, exploring how individuals prepare for social events, initiate conversations, reach out to others, and select connections.

These discussions led to key insights:

1. People like to know the background of others before social events.

2. They tend to converse with those who have similar backgrounds.

3. There's a desire to connect with the right individuals during each interaction.

Furthering our research, we conducted a secondary study on people's social habits, including when they prefer to socialize and their likes and dislikes in social settings. We explored the concepts of strong and weak ties to better understand the role of networking in people's lives, as well as the six degrees of separation theory and trust formula. This deepened our understanding of building connections and inspired new ideas, providing a richer narrative for our case study.

USER TESTING

What worked and what didn’t

Creating high-fidelity prototypes brings us closer to the final product's appearance and user experience. Therefore, after conducting high-fidelity prototypes, we initiated user testing to ensure our concepts were aligned with our goals.

Feedback 1

"The redundant text left me confused and unable to proceed to the next step."

The original version's excessive text overwhelmed users, making it tiring to read.

We enhanced the visual experience by adding icons and data, enabling users to quickly absorb more information.

Feedback 2

"I was confused on the connections page and unsure about the meaning of these statistics."

Users couldn't intuitively grasp the significance of the pie charts and data.

In the updated version, we sort by date and clearly show event names and connection counts.

Feedback 3

"The headline name is unclear."

The original title didn't clearly indicate that the page was for primary connection, confusing users.

After revisions, we maintained a clean page layout, using more direct text and icons to convey the message.

Feedback 4

"Users mistook the heart icon for 'liking,' expecting a match upon clicking, rather than its intended 'collecting' function."

The initial watch interface, cluttered with features such as data display and heart icons for linking, puzzled users due to its lack of intuitiveness.

After revising, we simplified the interface into three steps: providing information, matching, and suggesting users, guiding users through each phase to reduce confusion.
